A little animation done using Poser and Photoshop with a texture painted by me. Maybe in the future i'll develop again free tribute games for fun (if i'll have the time obviously). What do you think? Sprite size is smaller than the arcade one cause i was thinking at a game similiar to MK Mithologies, with platform style and jumps but with some fight here and there.
Today i'll talk about the evolution of a Link Kuei, my favourite Mortal kombat's fighter.
I love the ninja version and i'm talking about that version only in the years, from 1992 to 2015.
I've done a composition to see the differences between some of my favourite Mortal Kombat's games.
Here the list of the games and dates:
1992 Mortal Kombat
1993 Mortal Kombat II
1995 Ultimate Mortal Kombat III
1997 Mortal Kombat Sub Zero Mithologies
1997 Mortal Kombat 4
2006 Mortal Kombat Armageddon
2011 Mortal Kombat 9
2015 Mortal Kombat X
A great evolution, but i simply love the MK3 ultimate sprite, really perfect and clean.
And you? What's your favourite version?
A link to a great version that i loved and i'll be happy to play again on new version but i think it's just a dream, Mortal Kombat Mithologies: https://youtu.be/jF6RplNLdpk
I know, not everybody loves this title, but i do, and i'm here to tell you! Ever tried? Try it and you'll tell! Nice animations, nice sprites and nice action. Lots of fun and lots of large backgrounds to be explored. When i was i child i loved this strange cat, cause was Always smiling and cause he had a voice for each action happened in the game. Not very usual on megadrive games, if you know what i mean. What else to say? Try it on your megadrive or on your emulator and have fun by yourself. We must discover again this little big 2d adventures.
Today i'll talk about my first game. I've done the complete graphic part: sprites, backgrounds, animations sound fx and some sound tracks. Mod by Baritonomarchetto.
It has been a long experience, 7 years of development with some pauses inside. I've been helped by Riccardo Terren and almost every night we talked about it trying to do good choises for us and for the people. We decided to do it for free cause it's a complete FREE tribute full of love for Sega's Golden Axe. You'll find most of the original features ingame and some new funny things! Lots of levels and choose path available! Here some screenshots for you and below ALL the links to download it and play it for free! https://www.facebook.com/goldenaxemyth https://youtu.be/ZCFjRb3rrb4
Sprites and animations for Twitch tv Mudmink's page
Last week i've done some sprites and animations for the website Twitch TV on Mudmink's page, here the link for the complete animations: http://www.twitch.tv/mudmink/v/24293837
And here the sketch i've done at the begin (before starting pixel art and animations):
Ok, i've got a little secret, i've got ALL Megadrive games in one single cartridge! I've bought it from Aliexpress, waited a month for shipping time and that's it. Low cost, great fun!
I found inside an 8 gb SD (Kingston wow!) with a huge list of MD games inside, just pull on on your dream console and select your game!
I'm really happy about this little jewel and i'll use it to try Megadrive games on my CRT monitor to have a better feeling. I'll be able to study ALL sprites i want!
Do you ever know about it?
Discover something about it: https://youtu.be/omhcHjgFo88
Sonic by Sega, what else? Great game and great music. This one is my favourite, but there are so much great tracks in the 3 principal games that i'll back on the argument again and again in the future.
Next one will be a track from Sonic II stay tuned and check for the section Music from videogames in tags!
I know that everyone has a favourite music from videogames inside the heart. I've got thousand of little songs from videogames that i sing during the day (or the night) and that help me going on during hard tests or during work or everything else...
I want to start talking about them from this one, the game is Chuck Rock, from megadrive (but it has lots of porting on every console, from c64 to megacd).
There are many track that i'll share with you in other posts (level2 and last level are something special!).
But i think this is a good start, the main theme we all know, i'm sure you'll sing following the video (as i do everytime ;)
My friends, let's start this section talking about a strange game really funny!
I used to play this with my brother when i was 5yo on the commodore, but let's go on one step at the time.
This is Butasan, mr. and ms pig! An arcade game really funny, something like bomberman, you had to destroy other pigs using bombs. Frenetic play and nice sprites for the year (1987)
I discovered this version only some months ago, cause i played it on c64 and i did'nt knew that was a porting of the arcade version! And i played again with my brothers like 26 years ago! (in my mame cab of course)
Here you can se a screenshot from the commodore version, lovely lovely porting, and what about the music? I LOVE IT!
Special games collection new section for Oscar Celestini Retrogames
Hi everibody, today i want to talk you about another new section dedicated to special games. What i mean for special games? Are that games (maybe arcade, but also consoles and Handheld or Others) that unfortunately are not well known and we must discover again! Or that one we messed for a reason or another.
So stay tuned cause in next days i'll start from a game that i used to play when i was a child with my brother on commodore 64.
Ok, I decided the important date, (not very precise i know eheheh) but you can bet that you'll play Mastema out of hell next year. I'll complete it in the first half of the year, maybe in March. (probably) What do you think?
Here a sketched illustration about a particular idea i've got in mind, maybe i'll draw an experimental graphic novel for the kick starter campaign that will start in next month, are you interested? I hope so. I'll do my best as usual to keep on posting and adding interesting materials for you!
Stay tuned my friends, soon i'll update the page on INDIEDB This is the old page for the one who are curious about deleted version of the game (new one will be much better ;)) Here for you: OOH OLD PAGE ON INDIEDB
I everybody, do you know i love Megadrive and i've got it in my bedroom with my original collection. I want to share with you this little passion talking about good old games each week.
I'll talk about great titles but also unknown games and some other stuffs about spriting and pixel art.
First games i'll talk will be for sure Sonic the hedgehog and Altered Beast, i'll let you see some sprites and some interesting notes about them.
Here links for the one who don't know what i'm talking about:
Great news for you, i completed sprites and code for the normal and big enemies (remain bosses and final boss). I'm really happy about them and i think they act pretty good on screen. Here a little snapshot created in pshop as preview!
The soldier is a tribute to the one from Golden Axe, (I love him!) Who remember him?
I really love Game Boy Advance, but i've got to say that this version of Final Fight is far from perfection. I think it really loosed the original feeling of gameplay, enemies AI is really different from the arcade version and graphics also seems the same at a first view but it's really far!
I ripped some sprite to let you see differents, what do you think? Sprites are almost same size (that is very good) but tiny and less "powerful". A very nice feature is the possibility to play with Cody and Guy from Street fighter Alpha version, i loved them and i think are really stronger than the original version.
Working hard on levels and bosses for the game Mastema Out of hell, i'm pretty satisfied about new look of them. New version for another boss that you all just know (cause is in one of the first videos from the game).
Now is better, less colors but better detailed! What do you think? This is the boss of the ice level! (in a good old game must be an iced level, or not?)
My girlfriend seawed it on my project, i simply love it, i added a personal touch (the retro skull on the center) Do you like it? :D
The Game boy advance SP is the better portable console, cause is full of 2d games very very nice, Sonic, Mario, Castlevania, double dragon, final fight, Street fighter, thousand of nice games and beautiful versions!
I want to talk about SFA3 perfection in spriting. I think SFA style is the better in 2d art. Nice animations (not to much, but just perfect for the function of the game and dynamic action).
But a couple more of words about the spriting. Look at that example:
The principal quality of Capcom Alpha sprites is the simmetry, perfect voumetry of figures (look at blanka expecially). A perfect work on muscles and anatomy (look at sagat, adon or chun li Alpha version). I tried to learn from that great work and i'm still wondering about it when i'll back looking at them.
I love also SNK work on King of fighters series, but this one i think is greater, and you? What do you think? What's your favourite sprite style in videogames?
Mastema Out of hell is a game born some years ago, i was inspired by a game on Game boy advance: Castlevania Circle of the moon. I played it and i was really enthralled, fascinating backgrounds, good feelings about horror and thriller and lot of taste going up with levels and weapons.
I tried other castlevania after that one, but no one gived to me same feelings. I loved also some of NDS versions, Castlevania Dawn of sorrow and Order of ecclesia, but was not the same.
And you? What is your favourite version of Castlevania?
Today i want to talk about some of my favourites beat 'em up games, Double Dragon and Vendetta.
About Vendetta (we all know it, it's a great game) i love it for sprites precision and accurate animations:
But not everybody knows that Vendetta is the sequel of Crime Fighters, an old game (not to bad, try it and you'll have fun!) Sprites are really different from the sequel, small and poor in animation. So i love Vendetta also for the great evolution in the sequel. (something that did not happened in Double Dragon).
About Double Dragon, i love it for the solid shape of the Whole game, 4 levels, perfect duration and nice feeling of urban adventure, a little short but you'll play it more and more again as under a strange magic spell.
Let's talk about Double dragon sequels, i think that modern DD games sucks (who sayd Neon?)
But this one created for Game Boy Advance was really great. Nice sprites evolution, more levels and more features.
I hope you'll find interesting this post, if so, in the future i'll talk again about old videogames that we all loved in our childhood!
Play lot and have fun, cause life it's only a great game (whit a single lifebar and setted in veryhard!)
